Turning 50 in Style: Alice Reflects on Life, Legacy, and the Art of Living Beautifully

Share

As she steps into her 50th year, Alice reflects on a life woven with artistry, adventure, and fearless self-expression. From her early days in rural Somerset (and now current days), to dressing some of the world’s most iconic women, Alice has always marched to the beat of her own drum - guided by instinct, inspired by beauty, and grounded in authenticity.

In this milestone moment, we sit down with Alice to talk about the lessons she’s learned, the values she holds close, and how they have shaped both the woman she is and the brand.

What do you hold most dearly at this point in your life?

'I’m most grateful for my Temperley family, for the extraordinary young man my son is becoming, and for finally— at 50—finding the love of my life. These anchors remind me every day of what truly matters.'

What have you learnt over the years?

'Life has been a journey of learning to let go, of tuning in to my inner voice, and understanding the importance of protecting my peace. I’ve learned that not everyone deserves a seat at your table.'

What advice would you give to aspiring creatives?

'If there’s one lesson that’s been hard-earned, it's this: trust your intuition. Every time I’ve ignored mine, I’ve paid for it. The body knows, the heart knows—listen to them. You cannot always trust people, but you can trust your instincts. You cannot always please everyone -remember authenticity is key.'

When you look back, what are you proud of?

'One of my proudest achievements is creating a brand that began as a dream from college and my kitchen table. From nothing, and then together with Lars Von Benningsen and Mary Temperley we built something meaningful that resonated with others. A true real life family story that people connected with. It's how my team felt and what they became a part of. Those days and the energy were electric.'

What advice would you give your younger self?

'Don’t try to please others they will distract you - You must believe in yourself, pick yourself up, and carry on, no matter how many times you fall.'

With so much dreamt up, created and accomplished, are you ready to slow down?

'No, creative freedom is my lifeblood. There are still so many things I want to make, stories I want to tell, and projects I feel burning inside me. I want to fulfill all of these before I go - because creation is how I feel most alive.'

What do you find yourself craving more of these days?

'I wish for more time. Time with loved ones. Time to just be. Time to create without pressure, without interruption.'

And your next dream?

'My dream? A big, beautiful creative studio with the radio on, sunlight pouring in - just me, my materials, and absolute freedom. A space where I can make pieces that will last a lifetime.

Never stop dreaming.'
