This Autumn Winter 23 we look to Mexico City and the Casa Azul. This was to become the creative hub of the ’dyn circle’ a group of émigré artists, thinkers, and poets previously affiliated with Surrealism that moved from Europe to Mexico City in the post war era.
Taking its name from the Greek dynaton, meaning “the possible”, the group were enchanted by the spiritual power of nature and fascinated by both the ancient and local cultures of Latin America. Relics, indigenist art practises and monuments of ritual were continual sources of inspiration.
The mystical aspects of spirituality became inspiration to a group of female surrealists, Leonora Carrington, Kati Horna and Remedios Varo who enjoyed more autonomy working in Mexico than Europe. All of which made work inspired by pre-Columbian mythology, tarot, alchemy, astrology, and the occult.
Ancient monuments and mystic celebrations are of course long associated with the solstice related heritage of sacred lands in Somerset; the home and heart of the Temperley brand. Forever finding inspiration in myth, legend, and the poetry of a landscape.
A fiesta of bold colours set the tone for this season’s colour palette including joyful hues of cerulean blue, rich honey tones, scarlet reds, and azalea pinks. Each piece represents a unique blend of modern aesthetic and traditional techniques, capturing the essence of Casa Azul and the Dyn Circle.
